"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Up From the Grave
(Night Huntress, #7)
Jeaniene Frost

Publication date:
January 28th, 2014

There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives — and those of everyone they hold dear — will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon: Start + Reading List + Wrap Up!

The Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon is hosted by Michelle a.k.a The True Book Addict at her read-a-thon dedicated blog Seasons of Reading!
The read-a-thon starts on Friday, November 22nd at midnight and ends on Sunday, November 24th at 11:59 pm.

For more info & to join the read-a-thon, visit the post HERE.
On Twitter we (read-a-thoners) will use the hashtag #CSreadathon.
I'll try to read some Christmas/holiday-themed books for the read-a-thon, and I'm hoping to read at least 1 book or novella.

My Reading List:

1. The Bite Before Christmas:
- The Gift by Lynsay Sands - read on November 23rd (a novella)
- Home for the Holidays by Jeaniene Frost - read on November 23rd (a novella)
2. Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain - read on November 22nd
3. Love for the Holidays collection (to finish):
- Eight Christmas Eves by Rachel Curtis - TBR (a novella)
 - What Once Was Perfect by Zoe York - TBR (a novella)
4. The Christmas Train by David Baldacci - to continue reading

5. Heating Up the Holidays:
- Play With Me by Lisa Renee Jones - read on November 22nd (a novella)
- Snowfall by Mary Ann Rivers - TBR (a novella)
- After Midnight by Serena Bell - TBR (a novella)
Wrap Up:

For this read-a-thon, I read:

Season for Scandal was a sweet holiday-themed historical romance, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I also read one of the novellas in the Heating Up the Holidays Bundle: Play With Me by Lisa Renee Jones. This one was set around Thanksgiving & I liked it.

The Bite Before Christmas contains 2 novellas from 2 series: Night Huntress & Argeneau. I love the Night Huntress series, as well as all the characters, the main (Cat & Bones), as well as all the secondary characters, and this novella had almost all of them together (Vlad was the only one missing), so of course I loved the story of Home for the Holidays. It had everything every fan of the series would expect from a full-length novel, and with everything that was revealed, this novella MUST be read before the last book. I haven't tried the Argeneau series before, so The Gift was my first taste of the world, and I didn't feel at all lost in it. Everything was explained, the characters were likable, and their story was sweet (I loved it), so I might just read the 1st book in the series.
And of course, I had to stray from my reading list. I read Once Burned, the 1st book in the Night Prince trilogy, the Night Huntress spin-off. I have to admit that I was a bit (ok, a lot) biased when it comes to Vlad, because I loved him in the Night Huntress series, and I've been missing him in the 6th book, as well as the novella Home for the Holidays, so I had to read this book right now, but if I read this without knowing him from before & loving him for everything he has done for Cat, and how amazing he can actually be, I'm not sure if I would've liked him as much only from this book, but still it was a great read, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

 So, that's it!!!

WoW #139: Fragile Spirits + WWW #85!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Fragile Spirits
(Souls, #2)
Mary Lindsey

Publication date:
January 23rd, 2014

Paul has always known he was a Protector, fated to serve a Speaker who could hear the voices of spirits lingering after death and help those souls find peace.

Vivienne ignores the voices of the dead.

Paul has always followed the Protector’s rule book, preparing diligently for the day when he’d be matched with his Speaker and fulfill his destiny.

Vivienne never does what she’s told.

So when Paul is matched with Vivienne, they both find the pairing less than satisfactory. But a kidnapping, a malevolent spirit and power stronger than both of them may just prove that they are two halves of the same whole.

In a stunning story about the beauty of fate and the power of secrets, Mary Lindsey returns to the world of Shattered Souls with a breathtaking thrill-ride of a novel.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
This weekly meme is being hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading!

What am I currently reading?

So, these days I've been jumping around these 3 books. One Grave at a Time is the 6th Night Huntress novel, but unfortunately, it's not as awesome as the previous ones, there's just something missing, but I still like it & I'll finish it soon. I'm really enjoying The Storyteller, I'm reading it for a read-along, and I'm trying not to devour it too soon, and to be honest, I don't want it to end, so I'm going slow. Also, I'm re-reading City of Bones, and to be honest, I can't say that I enjoy it exactly, but hopefully I'll finish it soon. I'm only reading it again because I decided to finally read books 2 & 3, so I needed to be reminded of this one because I read it so long ago.

What did I recently finish reading?

The last book I read was The Merchant of Death, the 1st Pendragon book. This was actually a re-read for me, I read it long ago, long before I started blogging, and I've wanted to finish the series since then, and now that I finally re-read this one, I will definitely do that, and once again I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can't wait to see where & what kind of adventures Bobby (and me) will have :)

What do I think I'll read next?

The Lost City of Faar is the 2nd book in D.J. MacHale's Pendragon series, and I'm also planning to read The Bite Before Christmas collection & Season for Scandal this weekend for the Christmas Spirit Read-a-Thon, because they're both holiday-themed, although quite different, and of course the Night Huntress novella Home for the Holidays is the biggest reason for me reading The Bite Before Christmas, I've heard the novella is quite awesome, and although I haven't tried Lynsay Sands's Argeneau series, I still hope I'll enjoy The Gift.
How about you?

"Waiting On" Wednesday #138: Come Home to Me by Brenda Novak!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Come Home to Me
(Whiskey Creek, #6)
Brenda Novak

Publication date:
March 25th, 2014

Home is where her heart is...

When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She's made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she's back in the small town that was the closest thing to home she ever knew;the town where she can be with the sister who's her only family.

There's just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Placerville to open a branch of the Amos brothers' auto body shop. And no matter how hard she's tried, Presley hasn't been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can't fall back into his arms;or his bed. She's come too far to backslide now. And there's a secret she's been guarding;a secret she'll do anything to protect.

Although this is the 6th book in the Whiskey Creek series, and I've only read 2 of them, as well as the prequel novella, I can't wait for this one because I want Presley & Aaron to get their HEA. I read the 2nd book When Snow Falls only a few days ago, and both of them were major secondary characters, especially Presley, and it was heartbreaking, and they're both flawed & broken characters, so I can't wait to read this book. I know it will probably be really sad, but as I said, I'm hoping for some happiness for them both.

Update #1:

So far I read 3 books:

I enjoyed a lot all of these. I also started The Christmas Train,  and I also read (and loved) Noelle Adams's story Holiday Heat in the Love for the Holidays collection. Hopefully, I'll finish both of these before the end of the read-a-thon. I also completed the Christmas Cover Lover Puzzle Challenge, and I participated in the Holiday Scramble, although I still haven't been able to unscramble all of the words.

Wrap Up:

Ok, so, as always, I didn't quite stick to my reading plans. I planned to read only holiday themed books, but I also read a book that I should've totally read for Halloween The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud, but it was the only one, everything else I read was holiday-themed.

So, here's what I read for the read-a-thon:

I also started, but didn't finish in time:

...I read a 3rd of The Christmas Train, and 3 of the 5 novellas in the Love for the Holidays collection.

I also participated in 2 of the challenges:
- Christmas Cover Lover Puzzle Challenge
- Holiday Scramble
I also joined the #HoHoHoRAT Twitter Party, which was lots of fun.
